    • From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 11 Jan 2017)
"Sepr. 17 Mary Daughter of William and Mary Gotham born 26 August and Received 17 September 1801" - under heading 'Baptisms 1802'
(note the unusual wording - born and received no mention of the baptism!)
It seems safe to assume that Mary was a daughter of this William and Mary.
Having married and had their first child (William) baptised in Plymouth in 1800, they were in Deptford by 1804, when another son was baptised William, and where there is evidence of a daughter Mary, although there is no baptism that could be hers in Plymouth or Deptford or elsewhere. Not only is there this baptism in Dartmouth, but a William Gotham was buried in Dartmouth, also in 1802, presumably William and Mary's first son and why they subsequently gave another son the same name.
    Gender Female

Appeal for clemency for her brother Robert
    • Mary sent a letter appealing for clemency. On the outside of the folded letter is written "Ususal Ansr 25 July 1838"; it seems probable that this would have been written on the letter soon after it was received and so we may assume Mary sent it in the middle of 1838.

But was it the marriage of this William to a Mary?
I am fairly sure it was; the date is appropriate and there is no sign of a William Gotham in Plymouth before this date or this couple afterwards.
Unfortunately the PR entry for the marriage does not give William's occupation, but the banns book might.

GRO ref: Goatham, Mary to Rennels, William q3 1846 Kensington RD 3 331
With a name like Rennels which could be spelt many ways it is hard to be sure there were no children of the marriage, but the GRO online index has no children born with the surnames Rennels (plus phonetic variants) and mother's maiden name Gotham (exact) or Goatham (exact), 1844-1853 (searched 1 Jan 2017)
