  • Name Robert GOTHAM
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born
    • I estimated 1629 from date of marriage. Dawlish PRs only survive from 1651 for baptisms, hence Robert might have been baptised in the parish where he had his children and we won't know from that source.
I will check for BTs, which go back to 1609.
It seems likely, though, that this Robert was the one baptised in Stokeinteignhead in 1627, as there is no further evidence of him in that parish.

He might well be the brother of a 'Jone Gotum' who married 'John Froud' in Dawlish in 1663. A Robert had married a Jone Froode in Stokeinteignhead in 1626/7 - was the Jone who married John Froud their daughter marrying a cousin?

"Robert the sonne of Barnabas Gothum baptized the 5 daye of September" - under heading 'Baptisms 1627'
    Gender Male
    Died Between 1659 and 1663
    • * IF * I am right that the Jone Gotham who married in Dawlish in 1663 was the widow of Robert.
I have browsed the Dawlish burial PRs for 1658 - 1663, there is definitely no Robert Gotham. It is likely Robert would have been a mariner or similar and died at sea or overseas.

Son Alexander probably named after Barnabas's step-father who was probably the only father-figure he would have remembered, his father dying when he was just about 2, and his mother remarrying a couple of years later.
