William HEATH
Set As Default Person -
Name William HEATH Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1770 - From age at burial given as 69
Gender Male Occupation From 1818 to 1824 Boatman - At the time his children were baptised. Shown as a mariner on his death certificate.
Died 3 Feb 1840 East Teignmouth, Devon, England
Cause: Old age - From GRO copy of death registration (image of GRO register).
The informant was Mary Youlden, present at the death, resident West Teignmouth.
Buried 7 Feb 1840 St. Michael the Archangel’s Church, East Teignmouth, Devon, England
- Only burial in either Teignmouth to fit.
Would he have been buried in East Teignmouth, though, if his wife was buried in West? Is one of the burials I show wrong?
Notes - (Research):A William Heath had children with a Hannah, baptised in West Teignmouth in 1800 (Charles), 1803 (Hannah), and 1805 (William).
William had married Hannah Badcock in Wolborough in 1795 where they had children baptised 1796 (Hannah) and 1798 (Elizabeth).
I haven't found the baptism of Hannah (Wm's wife) so I don't know if it may have been the same William as the one who married Mary.

Family Mary GOTHAM, bap. 19 Jun 1781, St. James’ Church, West Teignmouth, Devon, England
, d. 12 Dec 1839, East Teignmouth, Devon, England
(Age ~ 58 years) Banns of marriage From 20 Jul 1806 to 3 Aug 1806 St. James’ Church, West Teignmouth, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP)
"William Heath and Mary Gotham"
No parish shown in the banns register for either of the couple; was the priest just slack about recording the information (the name of the person who published the banns is also missing), or does this imply both were otp?
Married 27 Oct 1806 St. Thomas’s Church, Exeter, Devon, England
- Although there were banns of marriage for William and Mary in West Teignmouth in 1806, their marriage took place in Exeter a few months later, with both of them shown as of the parish of St. Thomas the Apostle.

Perhaps there was an impediment, hence marrying in a city parish, where they were not known.
An impediment could also explain why a daughter of Mary's (Sarah), shown in the register as born more than 7 months after the marriage, was recorded as a Gotham and illegitimate.
I show Mary's other daughter who was baptised as a Gotham as having a different father, but she could have been a daughter of William Heath.
