      Alive at the time of the 1911 census, the following is the only death of an Elizabeth Morris in Wellington RD of the right age, so is probably this Elizabeth - though there were so many Elizabeth Morrises it is hard to be sure:

      It must be this one where Joseph is recorded as a Cottom:

      In the 1851 census there are 3 children with Joseph and Charlotte, not only Mary, born to the marriage, but Rachel, aged 6 and William, aged 9, both shown as born in High Ercall. If accurte, this implies that Joseph had been married before and had these 2 children. However, I cannot find birth registrations (or baptisms) to fit this. Could it be that they were children of Charlotte who had been 'adopted' by Joseph (or born to the couple before they married)? In this case they should appear with the surname Ridgeway; so far I have not found them with this name either. More investigation needed.

      The 1911 census shows that matthew and Elizabeth had had 9 children, all of whom were still living (the 9s are not the sort which can easily be confused with 7). Unusually, there are only 7 named in the censuses. In addition Dora / Dorre was shown as their granddaughter in 1901 but as a daughter in 1911; if they had effectively adopted her and were counting her we are still one short. It looks as though either one or two children were brought up with other family members (not that unusual at this time) or they had miscounted.

      There was an Elizabeth Morris, mother's maiden name Cotton, born and died in 1878 in Wellington Salop RD - she would fill a gap between the known children of Matthew and Elizabeth. There were three birth registrations with a mother's maiden name of Cottam in Wellington RD who could be children of Matthew and Elizabeth: Albert Joseph born 1895 and died 1897, Alice Maud, born 1898 and died 1899 and Leonard, born 1901. I think it most likely some of these were children of Matthew and Elizabeth.
