"Decr 25th No. 55. Susannah dau of Thomas & Susannah Gotham, abode Brooks St., father a Mariner,"
Gender Female Alt. Baptism 14 Dec 1832 St. Peter's Priory (RC), Liverpool, Lancashire, England
- Presumably Susannah (the mother) was Roman Catholic, and her first two children were baptised in an RC Church. Susanna appears to have been baptised in the (Anglican) Parish Church when a couple of weeks old, and then in an RC Church aged about a year, shortly before her death, so probably when already ill. Perhaps Susanna became concerned that her not being baptised in the RC Church would be a possible obstacle to her baby entering heaven.

Shown as Susannah Gotham, aged 12 months, abode: Brooks Street, buried by: Romanist. In many places at one time the only place for burial was the Parish Church churchyard (or at least, not all other denominations had a place of burial). Everyone resident in the parish had a right to be buried there, but they did not have to have a Church of England burial service. However, if buried by others no other form of ceremony (than the prescribed Church of England burial service was allowed). They would of course have been able to have a service in their own church.
