  	In 1837 Thomas French was shown as the occupier of the South Harton, Estate, 128.3.25 acres owned by George Wills. Probably the same Thomas was the one who also occupied Lusecoombe Estate, 39.2.29 acres, and part of Ellimore Estate, 5.1.09 acres, both also owned by George Wills. Lustleigh Parish shares a good length of its boundary with Manaton Parish, where the tithe apportionments show a Thomas French owned and occupied Winkson (105 acres) and North Hayne (37 acres), and owned but didn't occupy Great and Little Houndtor (162 acres), as well as leasing and occupying South Hayne (36 acres). However, French was quite a common surname on Dartmoor and the 1841 census shows that there was another Thomas French living in Manaton Parish, also a farmer, so it was probably he who owned and farmed land there. It is possible it was also he who Lusecoombe and part of Ellimore in Lustleigh.
