  • Name Penelope
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born Est 1672
    • Based on date of birth of husband and of baptism of known children
    Baptised
    • It seems likely she was from Morchard Bishop; if so,she was probably this Penelope:
"Penelope Daughr of John Webber bapt _ [May the] 18"
An older Penelope Webber left a will in 1667, most likely this Penelope's grandmother, possibly an aunt or other relation; either way it points to her father being from an established local family.
    Gender Female
Buried 19 Sep 1703  St. Mary’s Church, Morchard Bishop, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • From PR entry (image in member's area on DFHS website)
"Pen wife of Mat Gotham bur Septembr the 19th"
The BT entry confirms that her name was (as I had assumed) Penelope:
"Penelope wife of Math Gotham bur Septembr the 19th"

    Family Matthew GOTHAM, [Parents?],   b. Abt 1670,   d. 20 Nov 1758  (Age ~ 88 years)
    Other Partners: Thomasin
    Married Est 1696
    • Both Matthew and his wife may have moved to Morchard Bishop from another parish, but if Matthew married a Morchard Bishop woman, then it may have been Penelope Webber, baptised there 27 May 1673.

They probably married about 1696, the year before the baptism of their first known son, though if they were from another parish could have had one or more other children (no sign of marriages or burials of any likely other children in Morchard Bishop, though).
If they were both living in Morchard at the time of their marriage the lack of an entry for it in the PR may suggest they married by licence in Exeter. Browsing licences on FS for 1696-7 I have not found one (but not all survive / are legible).
