  	Just shown as labourer in 1851, possibly the same job. Shown as formerly 'crate maker'(?) in 1871. I can see that crate makers worked in the potteries, but I can't find a reference to crates being used in the mines, so maybe Thomas changed to working for a pottery before he went blind and could no longer work.

  	The 1871 census shows that Thomas had been blind for 8 years, but the 1881 census says 21 years. Since there was no mention of blindness in 1861 I think it more likely that the 1871 census was correct, although of course losing his sight may have taken place over several years and so both may have been correct.

Although shown as a WOOLDRIDGE, this Matthew is the right age to be the son of Charles and Ann GOTHAM. In addition there are no more children shown until one aged 4, i.e. soon after the marriage of Thomas WOOLDRIDGE and Ann GOTHAM. There is no other sign of an Ann GOTHAM with a son Matthew in the 1851 census. Unfortunately so far I have not found them in 1841 either, as this could give futher clues.
