Father William JEFFERSON, d. Yes, date unknown Mother Mary, d. Yes, date unknown Married - William and John are shown as the sons of William and Mary Jefferson (KFHS transcribed data for their baptisms).
However, a William married a Sarah Saffree in Minster on Sheppey on 1 Apr 1759. They appear to have had a daughter Lydy in 1760 and a son William in 1765, possibly the William who died in 1766.
Could William who was married to Sarah have remarried to Mary? I don't think so.
In 1774 a widow Sarah had an illegitimate child, and there is no burial of a Sarah in Minster until 1779. Many burials are shown to be of infants, children etc. so it seems most likely that the 1766 burial was not of the son of William and Sarah, but of William senior, the infant's father.
Hence I think we have two different couples.
There is no marriage of William to a Mary in Minster.
Was there a Jefferson link between this family and the Portsea / Gosport area before son John settled there for a few years?
A William who could have been this one married in Portsea in 1763 (to Mary Hunt).
