Father Mr. Richard GOTHAM, b. Est 1578, d. Between 1615 and 1640 (Age ~ 37 years) Mother Susan, b. Est 1580, d. 1651, (probably), Abbotskerswell, Devon, England
(Age ~ 71 years) Married - Without Penelope's baptism there was no clear evidence that the Richard having children in East Allington was the husband of Susan who was linked to Whiddon in Abbotskerwell.
Penelope's baptism shows that Richard and Susan were married to each other. The baptism was outside the usual Gotham area, but in an area with which Richard had a family link through the Coles - his maternal grandmother was Margaret Cole and she appears to have inherited land in Buckland Toutsaints, a small parish adjoining East Allington.
This link of Richard to the area makes me confident it was this Richard who was the father of Penelope / husband of Susan.
