Kate GOTHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name Kate GOTHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Bef 1662 - I am guessing that Kate would have been aged at least 16 when listed as donating to the rebuilding of St. Paul's Cathedral.
Although I show Kate as a Gotham by birth, she may well have been a widow, or just possibly a married woman. From just a single reference it is not possible to tell.
Gender Female Donation 1678 Drewsteignton, Devon, England
To the Rebuiliding of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London - Kate gave 2d.
In Drewsteignton the Rector gave £1, all others gave between a halfpenny and 5/- (or maybe that should be from less than a halfpenny, if one considers that one gift of threepence was Constable Collihole, his wife, sons, daughters and a servant - i.e. at least 6 people).
In Drewsteignton forty seven donations from at least 48 people were of less than 2d; 51 donations from at least 75 people were for more than 2d; 40 donations from 43 people were of 2d. Amongst those who donated, Kate's donations was very average.
(from transcription of the Parish Return towards the Rebuilding of St. Paul's Cathedral for Drewsteignton Devon on the GENUKI website, citing Guildhall Library MS 25565/6 f155-156)
Died Aft 1678 - Listed as donating to the rebuilding of St. Paul's Cathedral in 1678
Notes - (Research):In Kent I have found that most 'stray Goathams' that I have followed up have turned out to have a name that is not Goatham or a variant of it at all.
If the only 'Gotham' record I knew of in Drewsteignton was for Kate I might think she was probably a not a Gotham, but a mis-transcription; however, a book about Drewsteignton refers to a Richard Gotham, also in the C17th.
The PRs for Drewsteignton do survive on this period and are on FMP, but searching the index finds no entries. This does not mean there is none - the same result can be obtained for Ugborough, because all the Gotham entries are mis-transcribed. The same may be the case for Drewsteignton; I have not yet had time to browse the PRs.
