However, whilst it does not fit with the date of registration of any Charles H Hicks in Plymouth or elsewhere in England or Wales, it does fit with the following:
GRO ref: Varcoe, Charles Henry H q3 1896 Plymouth RD 5b 269; GRO online index shows full Christian names as Charles Henry Hicks and no mother's maiden name (implying he was illegitimate)
In the 1911 census there is in Plymouth a 14 year old Charles H Hicks whose father had been married 13 years to his wife - Ellen E A Hicks, whose maiden name was Varcoe (father-in-law present with surname Varcoe).
I think it safe to assume the above references are to this Charles H Hicks and his family.
