  	Although registered at birth as Grace Charlotte GOTHUM, * I am guessing * she would have been known as Grace Charlotte Gotham TARR. GRO ref: GOTHUM, Grace Charlotte q2 1896 Bath RD 5c 583; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Tarr Details (birth place and date) from birth registration (GRO register entry). Shown as the daughter of 'Henry Gothum' and 'Bessie Gothum formerly Tarr'. There is no evidence of a Henry Gotham whose daughter this could be, and although Bessie's father had 'Gotham' as a middle name, it being his mother's maiden name, none of his mother's brothers had a son, so by this time this Gotham family had daughtered out. The birthplace is where Bessie Tarr and her parents, siblings etc. were living at the time of the 1881-1901 censuses. It seems Bessie made up marriage and a father for Grace when she registered the birth. (Although the father would need to be present at the registration if a couple were not married, since Bessie was pretending to be married there would have been no need for her husband to be involved with the registration). Subsequent to this birth Bessie married as a Tarr. Did her daughter continue as a Gotham, was she a Tarr, did she take the surname of her mother's husband, Sharp? - I can't find her under any of these. She was not with her mother, who was working as a nurse, at the time of the 1901 census, nor with her grandmother and aunt and uncle, who were in her birthplace. I have found no death registration, including searching 'Grace *ARR' in Bath RD (Tarr is often mistranscribed as Farr or Sarr), 1896-1911. By 1911 her mother had married, had a son, been widowed and was living in Wales; Grace was not with her. Maybe Grace had been 'adoted' and was recorded with another name entirely.  I can't find a death or census entry for Grace in England or Wales, as a Gotham, Tarr or Sharp. No entry found for her in the Somerset baptism index on FMP (checkec 29 July 2017)
  		Birth registration of Grace Charlotte 'Gothum' Her mother appears to have pretended to be married to a Gotham when she reigstered the birth. I suspect Grace may have been known by the surname Tarr if she stayed with the family, but I have not discovered what became of her.
