Middlesbrough is just across the Tees from Stockton and it seems reasonable to suppose that the Anthony Gaughan living there (or at least, a visitor there) in 1851 was the same person as the Anthony Gowham who married in Stockton in 1853, and whose family were then recorded with the name Gothan (or Gotham or Gothen, etc.)
