  Notes	(Research):Why were her children with others at the time of the 1881 census? (her two daughters with her brother John and his wife Emma née Gotham, her son with her parents and younger siblings). Had she died? - I have not found a death registration to match. Was she ill? Had she remarried and her new husband wasn't willing to take on the children from her previous marriage? Had she and her husband emigrated and were expecting to send for the children? (if the latter, it is clear her daughters remained with Emma and John). I think she had probably been widowed, and needed to work. There is an Asbourne-born 'Mary Jane D. Marlow' working as a general servant in Derby at the time of the 1881 census. She is shown as a spinster but there is no registration of the birth of a Mary Jane Marlow in Ashbourne at any time 1853-1857. I think it was this Mary Jane with her age a little out and marital status wrongly recorded. Also in Derby, there is the death registration of a William Marlow that could be her husband in 1879; though again the age is a couple of years older than he would have been, I think this is probably Mary's husband.
