Hannah MEECH
Set As Default Person -
Name Hannah MEECH Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1835 Macclesfield, Cheshire, England
- From the 1841 census where shown as aged 6
Despite 5 year discrepancy with age in 1871 and 1881 censuses the relatively uncommon surname combined with correct father's name and occupation (as per her marriage) and being in Macclesfield, which the later censuses show as her birthplace, confirm it was this Hannah.
Gender Female Occupation From 1871 to 1891 Dress maker - From the censuses, 'dress maker' in 1871 and 1881, 'taileress' in 1891
Residence 1899 96, Salisbury Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
- Given as her address when admitted to the infirmary, also given as the address of her daughter Eliza McKay.
Died Sep Q 1899 West Derby Reg Dist, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
- GRO ref: Johnson, Hannah q3 1899 aged 59 W. Derby RD 8b 461
- fits with age claimed in 1871, 1881 and 1891 censuses.
The description in the admission of a Hannah to hospital in 1899 clearly points to her, she probably died of the illness that caused the admission.
Illness From 3 Mar 1899 to 5 May 1899 The Infirmary, Mill Road, West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Admitted to hospital - The admission and discharge book shows that Hannah, described as 'widow of Geo a Painter', was admitted by the medical superintendant. and was discharged 'Relieved' a couple of months later. Unusually the 'disease' column was left blank, but whatever it was being only relieved and not cured may be why she died not long after.

Family George JOHNSON, b. Abt 1822, Hedon, Yorkshire, England
Other Partners: Martha EASTHAM m. 16 Jun 1844Married 9 Oct 1859 St. Nicholas’ Church, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
- GRO ref: Johnson, George to Meech, Hannah q4 1859 Liverpool RD 8b 267
Details from PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 27 May 2019)
Although George was with Hannah in 1861 he was not with her at the time of the 1871 or 1881 censuses, with the 1871 census showing Hannah as a widow. Hence it is not clear if all the children were really his - even where shown as the father in a baptism entry. Clearly Richard can't have been his son if he really was dead by 1871.
