with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1822 - No clear evidence showing that Maria was the daughter of William and Sarah but the circumstances strongly suggest it.
- There is a gap between their known children which she fits neatly;
- she was living in Cross Street when she died; this was shown as the abode of William and Sarah and their family when a son of theirs was baptised in Feb the same year.
- Cobden was not a common name in Stoke on Trent; the only other couple who it is clear were having children in the 1820s lived in Lane End, not Cross St.
- a single woman had a Cobden child in the 1830s, but did not live in Cross Street, and none of Wm and Sarah's children was old enough to have a child in 1822.
