"The 2d of June baptiz Austen Tilson son of Edward Tylson"
    Gender Male
    Bequest 1631
In his (step?) great grandfather Augustine Murton's will
    • As a Godchild, Austen was left 4 shillings by his (?) great grandfather; however, this was to be paid out within a year of Austen Carr receiving Augustine Murton's house and land etc., and this was only to happen after Augustine's daughters had both died. This didn't happen until 1631.
Godfather Augustine Murton, his (step?) great grandfather
    • Augustine Murton named 4 Godchildren in his will, all named Austen and including "Austen Tilson".
Augustine Murton left a bequest to this Austen's mother in his will, but less than to four named children of his daughter Joan, which may indicate she was not his granddaughter - possibly Joan's husband Hercules had been married before and Mary could have been a daughter from that marriage.
Hence this Augustine Murton might have been this Austen's great grandfather, but he may have only been a step-great grandfather.
