Gender Male Occupation 1901 Clerk for Corn Dealer - Living with his parents in Boughton under Blean, but it seems unlikely the corn dealer was there. Most likely he was working in Faversham or Canterbury.
Occupation From 1911 to 1939 Oversland Farm, Boughton under Blean, Kent, England Farmer - Herbert was the farmer at Overland Farm by the time of the 1911 census, still there in 1939 and presumably in 1951 as that was where he died.
The 1911 census shows him as an employer but does not give any indication of the size of the farm or number of employees - none were living with Herbert and Willa.
The Branchett family were farming at Oversland by 1861 when Herbert's grandfather was farming 25 acres and employing 1 man. It was not the only farm at Overland; the next census entry was for the household of a farmer with 100 acres who employed 9 men and 3 boys.
However, it may seem strange that Herbert, not the oldest son, should have taken over the farm. It appears, though, that his father had mvoed on to a farm at South Street, Faversham by 1911 and Herbert's older brother was working on that farm.
