John GOATHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name John GOATHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 20 Nov 1752 Margate, Kent, England
- date from bapt register
Baptised 19 Dec 1752 St. John the Baptist Church, Margate, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 18 Feb 2017)
Gender Male Witness to will 10 Dec 1789 St. Luke’s Parish, London, Middlesex, England
Of John Lindley, Paper Stainer - There is nothing in the will to suggest the two Johns were related, John Lindley leaving everything to a son Robert, if he reached the age of 21, else to his (John's) sisters, all four of whom lived in Yorkshire, so that was probably where John was from.
John Lindley was, though, like John Goatham, a paper stainer. I guess it was their common occupation that led to them being acquainted and to John Goatham being a witness for John Lindley.
(Will proved in the PCC, 22 Mar 1790; TNA ref. PROB 11/1189/233).
Tax records From 1810 to 1816 Radcliff Mount, St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, England
London land tax - Records survive for at least 1810 - 1816 recording John's payments - more info. to be added here.
Occupation Paper stainer - The indenture for his son becoming an apprentice paper stainer seems to refer to John senior being a paper stainer too.

- Found via Ancestry index. Nothing to associate with this John except age - given as 85.

Notes - (Research):Was it John from Thanet who married Elizabeth Millbank?
Given that the age of the John who was buried in Finsbury matches the age indicated by baptism of this John, together with the tendency of members of this family to move to London and there being no further evidence of John found on Thanet, I believe it was.
It also seems reasonable to suppose that the burial of an Elizabeth Goatham buried a few years earlier in the same parish was his wife, especially as her abode was shown as the same. If the age there was accurate, this would mean she was 44 when they married, John being 35; I did think this could explain why no children have been found for this couple, but have now seen that they seem to have had a son John in 1790. If Elizabeth was then 46 it is unlikely they had many more, though with the baptism not yet found it can't be assumed he was their only child.
