John CLEVE, [Father?]
Set As Default Person -
Name John CLEVE Suffix [ONS gp] [Father?] Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1585 - Parents uncertain.
I am guessing that John was the son of Andrew who was buried in 1618. It seems likely, especially as John seems to have had a son Andrew, likely his eldest. However, it could easily have been a brother who died in 1618, or possibly an uncle. Could be a more distant relation, though there weren't many Cleaves or Hammetts in Widecombe at this time, so a more distant relation is less likely.

- Shows Cleve alias Hamete, John & Richord [blank]
The brides surname was not shown in other marriage entries at the start of 1613.
Unlike some names in Widecombe, both Cleve and Hamete (and other sps. of these names) were uncommon in Widecombe at this time, and I have found no other couple who could be the parents of those shown here at their children.
The fact that John was recorded at marriage as 'Cleve alias Hamete' also suggests a close connection to their supposed children, as both daughters and RIchard were recorded with the alias at marriage, the alias was used in the baptism record for Thomas' daughter and it occurs on numerous occasions in the records of Andrew's family.
