Albert Edward COVENEY
Set As Default Person -
Name Albert Edward COVENEY Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 18 Feb 1873 Hucking, Kent, England
- GRO ref: Coveney, Albert Edward q1 1873 Hollingbourn RD 2a 649
About Feb from his WW1 records which show his age as 41 years and 6 months on 26 Aug 1914. The pension records also show him as attaining the age of 55 on 18 Feb 1928, though what appears to be his entry in the 1939 register gives the date as 14 Feb 1874. (No other possible entry for him found in the register). Clearly a year out, but I don't know if 14 or 18 is correct.
Shown as born Hucking in the 1881 census but as born Hollingbourne in the 1891 census (with his parents in both; both places are in Hollingbourn RD)
Gender Male Go(a)tham ONS On the tree because ... - Albert's wife Nora appears to have been a mother figure to Beatrice Goatham, probably from shortly after Beatrice's birth, certainly by the time of the 1921 census, and though by then married Beatrice (and her husband) were with Nora at the time of the 1939 registration.
However, Albert and Nora appear to have parted company. I don't know when this happened, whether before or after Nora took on Beatrice. Hence Albert may or may not have been a father figure to Beatrice.
Residence 1891 Keycol Hill, Newington next Sittingbourne, Kent, England
- Living with his parents, no other siblings remaining at home. His father was a farm bailiff; nothing to show whether or not Albert worked on the same farm.
Occupation 1891 Groom Residence 1921 10, Kenton Road, Hackney, London, England
Occupation 1921 War Office, 27, Pilgrim Street, Ludgate Hill, London, England
Checking clerk Occupation From 1939 to 1951 London, England
Commissionaire - At the time of the 1939 register and still his occupation when he wrote his will.
Will 1951 Written - Of the six children born to Albert and his first wife, and the one fostered (but probably after Albert had left his family) only one of his sons (his third, Norman Henry,) was left a bequest (as was Norman's son). No mention is made of his wife Nora.
Most of the bequests are to the family with whom he was living, the Simpsons. I have not worked out whether these were relations of Albert's.
Died 10 Nov 1951 60, Lilyville Road, Fulham, London, England
Cause: Hypostatic pneumonia/Cerebral thrombosis - From probate calendar entry; date also from his WW1 pension records (cause from the same pension records)
Probate 15 Jan 1952 London, England
- "COVENEY Albert Edward of 60 Lilyville-road Fulham London died 10 November 1951 Probate London 15 January to James Raymond Ellis solicitor. Effects £760 12s. 11d."
(Date of death also in his WW1 papers, which also names his wife Nora and children, confirming it is this Albert Edward Coveney)

Presumably still a couple when the 1911 census was taken, as Nora was living in barracks with her children, but her husband was with a new partner by the time of the 1919 electoral roll, so the marriage would seem to have effectively ended between those dates.

Family 2 Ellen, b. 10 Dec 1873, Norfolk, England
, d. Mar Q 1941, Kensington Reg Dist, London, England
(Age 67 years) Married Between 1911 and 1920 - Albert and Nora seem to have been still together in 1911 (see their marriage notes), so it would seem he and Ellen started living as man and wife between then and the 1920 electoral roll.
Albert was also recorded with his 'wife' Ellen at the time of the 1921 census (from image on FMP) and at the time of the 1939 register.
The 1921 census shows they were living as man and wife, and Albert was not simply with a relation who shared his surname.
