    Notes
    • After 1711 there is no sign of Daniel and Elizabeth and family in Kingsteignton - judging by the index on FMP (as at 10 Mar 2022). The index on the Devon FHS to some of the PRs not on FMP, and that on FamilySearch don't provide any clues either.
Maybe they had emigrated, or more likely moved to a parish whose PRs don't survive for this period or are not yet indexed.

One other possibility is that it was this Daniel who married in Tavistock in 1704. It was to an Elizabeth and we know from son Nicholas' baptism that was the name of this Daniel's wife. However, it was such a common name that matching does not carry much weight. It would be easy to make a story to fit this, but there was also a Daniel baptised in Lamerton in the same year as this Daniel, 1682. With Lamerton only about 3 miles from Tavistock and the latter it's nearest town, whilst Kingsteignton was about 27 miles away, it has to be more likely the marriage of the Lamerton Daniel.
However, it may not be. There were Daniels buried in Tavistock in 1690 and 1704, either of which could have been Daniel from Lamerton.

This Daniel's parents were still alive in 1704, and with his father at least coming from the Tavistock area he or they may still have had links there, which could have led to Daniel finding work there.
After the marriage 3 daughters followed, baptised in 1705, 1707 and 1708 (Mary, Elizabeth and Hanna). A Daniel Cudlip was then buried in Tavistock in 1710. I haven't found where Kingsteignton Daniel's wife was from but if her family were living in Kingsteignton (where she had married, after all) then she may have returned to the parish after the death of her husband. (Note: there were a number of Daniels baptised in or near Tavistock whose burial this could be; I have not tried to match up all the baptisms / marriages / burials; it may not be possible but I hope in time the Cudlip ONS may help by showing this).
The abrupt end to the family, in 1708 or 1711, does suggest, though, that the 1710 burial may be of the father of the 3 Tavistock-baptised children at least. Did a widowed Elizabeth remarry? Many marriage registers at this time don't show the marital status of either party, but the only one soon after the death of a Daniel in 1710 seems to be in 1712 when an Elizabeth Cudlip married in Lamerton. Not only that, but looking at the Lamerton registers Daniel baptised there in 1782 there had a sister Hannah baptised the following year. Hannah was not that common a name in the south of England, not on a par with Mary and Elizabeth. I think it was the Lamerton Daniel who married and had 3 children in Tavistock. It seems to me probable that the fact the marriage and dates dovetail well with the Kingsteignton family is a coincidence.
