  	With his father having died his mother was back home with her parents in Singleton. Surprisingly, her son Thomas was not with them, but with his paternal grandparents in Boxgrove. Maybe work committments made it difficult for Ann's family to care for Thomas; there was just Ann and her parents. HIs Tapner grandparents had several of their children living with htem, aged 13-25. This would have meant both more wages coming in so Kitty may worked mainly at domestic chores, at home, and not needed to go out to work, and there would have been more domestic chores due to the larger household.
