    Notes 
    • I did have a note died abt 1767 - I don't know why / where from. But this seems the most likely Ann to have had banns read for a marriage in 1789 and then an illegitimate baby.

      The banns, with 1st reading on 7 Jun 1789, were for a marriage to a Benjamin Shaw. Both were of Lenham, but there was no marriage there, and I guess they didn't marry anywhere.
      Did Benjamin do a runner? Die? Come to believe that the baby Ann was carrying wasn't his? Was there an obstacle that meant they could not legally marry?

      I think most likely Benjamin was the father of George, and did a bunk. Since he was of Lenham when the banns were read this is the place he would most likely have been buried if he had remained in the parish, but he was not buried there.
