    Notes
    • Shown as of Portlemouth when he married, but was he the son of William and Mary? He could have just been living there as he was a mariner. However, given that there was a John there in 1841, aged about 15 (as ages were rounded down could have been aged up to 20) and given that he was living with William and Mary (and his father was named as William when he married) it seems probable that  these were his parents and he was the one who married Anne.
It is probably significant that in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses his (probable) parents are listed immediately after the Parsonage household; in 1851 their house is named as 'Parsonage Cottage', suggesting the two were close to each other. Also in 1851 Ann was living at the Parsonage where she was working as a servant, so the change of John and Ann meeting seems high.
A small discrepancy is that in both censuses William (John's probable father) is shown as an ag lab, although shown as a servant in the marriage entry for John and Anne. They were married by the Rector, who lived at the Parsonage and so should have known what his neighbour William's occupation was. Ag labs were a sort of servant, but the description would be unusual, unless maybe he was employed by the Rector, to work on glebeland, and hence being in Parsonage Cottage.
    • (Research):I added John Mortimore to my tree as the first husband of my 3 x great grandfather's second wife.
Since adding him I have discovered I have Mortimore ancestors. I have therefore looked at his (probable) tree a little (Mortimore line only) to see if there is a link. Answer? - I'm not sure!

John seems to be descended from Mortimers from South Pool. The family seemed to arrive there with William who married Grace Edwards in 1746.
      Where did William come from?
      - was he the William who was baptised in Slapton in 1716 : that William is a cousin (2nd, 8 x removed) of mine.

But there was also a marriage of a William in Blackawton in 1750. Was that the Slapton-baptized William?
