Notes - Living with her son Charles and family in 1871.
- (Research):Why did James and Sarah call a son Springfield - was Sarah descended from Richard Hunt and Elizabeth nee Springfield or related to Springfields in more distant way?
James and Sarah and their family were living in the same house, but a separate household, to a John, 'Ellener' and Elizer Siflet at Norton Green, Stockbury parish, at the time of the 1841 census and it seems probable that Sarah was the daughter of John and Eleanor. The KFHS transcripts of the Stockbury PRs shows that John and Eleanor had a number of children baptised in Stockbury Parish Church: Edward (1808), Mary (1810), Elizabeth (1813), Jane (1815), Caroline (1818) and Eliza Ann (1823); the last must be the 'Elizer' of the 1841 census.
In 1795 a Thomas and Mary are recorded as having a dau baptised - is this a mistake and Mary should be Ann? - and from 1794 to 1816 a Thomas and Ann had 10 children baptised (1794, 1797, 1799, 1800, 1803, 1804, 1806, 1809, 1813, 1816), so they could theoretically also be the parents of Sarah; Thomas and John were probably brothers (both sons of John and Elizabeth Syfleet, bapt Stockbury 1762 and 1768). While it would not be unusual for a family to be with their uncle and aunt, Thomas and Ann had a daughter baptised Sarah in 1813 and it is very unlikely that they would have done this if another daughter Sarah was living. No other Sifleet families appear in Stockbury whose child Sarah could be, though of course she could have been illegitimate (like Jemima Elizabeth, dau of Ann, bapt 1803), or have been the child of a couple who had just the one dau, or from a family living elsewhere.
She was shown in the censuses as born Newington nxt Sittingbourne, but neither the N or S PRs have her bapt, nor does Hartlip - her mother's birthplace acc to the 1851 census, the birthplace of a sister Cordelia (age given as 60 in 1861) acc to the 1861 census which shows Eleanor b Chatham (bapt looked for on KFHS transcripts). Other trees (on Ancestry) show John and Eleanor (Tworell) marr St Nicholas, Rochester in 1797, also that they had Cordelia bapt Chatham 1799, Wm ba Chatham 1801, Robert b Stockbury c 1806, ba unk. Sarah thus neatly fills a gap bet 1801 and 1806 during which it would seem probable that J & E would have had at least 1 other child.
John marr Elizabeth Redmans in 1759 in Stockbury
