John wrote his will and died during the Seven Years War. It was written on 1st March 1760 and he describes himself as of HMS Adventure, under the command of Captain Matthew Moore.
In 1761 this frigate* took part in the British Expedition against Belle Isle, as described here.
(Frigate or ship of the line? - described as the latter here)
I have seen some pay books and musters which include John and mention his death, but with no details; I hope through the musters it will be possible to learn more about John - assuming he was still on the Adventure. It looks like there are various documents (pay books, logs and musters) surviving in the National Archives at Kew for HMS Adventure that should fill in some information.
It would be interesting to know if John was a volunteer or a pressed man; hopefully the documents will clarify this.
British action in 1762 is described here.
Will 1762 - John Charrosin wrote his will when he was fit and well, unlike most. But he was a Marine, and conscious of the dangers - and I guess it was probably his occupation which led to his death. There is no indication that he was buried in Canterbury, not only where he came from but where his "trusty friend" and beneficiary, presumably the woman he intended to marry, Ann Gillpin lived.
He only mentions his "trusty friend" Ann - no family members.
Whether he died and was buried on land or at sea I don't know.
