Frances Ann BATE
Set As Default Person -
Name Frances Ann BATE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 1822 Sittingbourne, Kent, England
- Info from 1851 census where age given as 28 (I think); also age on gravestone 80.
Gender Female Residence 1861 17, Parrock Street, Milton next Gravesend, Kent, England
- Frances was living with 5 of her children, aged 2 to 14 and an 18 year old house servant
Occupation 1861 Milton next Gravesend, Kent, England
House proprietor Residence 1871 4, Marsham Street, Maidstone, Kent, England
- Frances still had 3 daughters with her - Ann, Ellen and Jessie, besides a 16 year old general servant
Residence 1881 53, Bowen Street, Maidstone, Kent, England
- One might have expected the size of the household to shrink since the last census, but instead it had grown. Jessie was no longer at home, but Harriett had returned. In addition, Ann had not only married but been widowed and she had not only returned but with 2 children.
Residence 1891 Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, Kent, England
- A different address at every census - I don't know how many others they had between the censuses! Living with 4 daughters, no grandchildren present, have a live-in servant again
Residence 1901 22, Tonbridge Street, Maidstone, Kent, England
- Still in Tonbridge Road!
Three daughters living with her, all working as governesses. No live-in servant now, though most of the neighbours are professional people and do have one.
Buried Oct 1902 St. Mary’s Church, Newington next Sittingbourne, Kent, England

Grave of William Prior (c1814-1860) and family: close up of inscription
Happened to spot this grave when visiting the church for bell ringing; didn't use a tripod - could have been clearer.
Inscription:
In memory of

who died April 7th 1860, aged 46 years.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying
unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which
die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith
the Spirit, that they may rest from their
labours; and their works do follow them.

This seemed to be the only one around the right time, so I suspected it was this couple despite the unexpected location from the index; seeing it seems to confirm it, with the right name and occupation for the father.
