Francoyse BAQUELÉ
Set As Default Person -
Name Francoyse BAQUELÉ Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Gender Female Died Aft 1611 Notes - When Paul de Farvaques married in 1618 the marriage contract mentioned his "father-in-law" Francois Godfrey. It clearly wasn't a father-in-law in the modern sense, but the term used to mean what we now call "step-father". Assuming it meant this, then Francois had married Paul's mother.
Francois Gaudefroy and Francoise Baquele were both godparents to Paul's dau Jeanne in 1619; the relationship between them or between each of them and the child being baptised was not shown.
In 1606 the baptism of Jane gives her parents names as Francois Godfroy and Francoyse Baquelé, and Francoyse is also mentioned as Francois' wife in 1610/11 when both were godparents to Judith, dau of Samuel de Farvaques.
This would seem to make Francoyse Judith's grandmother, not an unusual choice, to have grandparents as godparents.
One of the godparents of her dau Jane was a Jane Baquelé - suggests the latter was a relation also in Canterbury - maybe sister or mother? At a baptism at the Canterbury Walloon Church in 1593 a Marguerite Baquelé and a Sara Baquelé had been godparents. Sara was also a godmother in 1591/2, as was (at a different baptism) "la fille de Andrieu Baquele". Andrieu Baqley was himself a godfather a month later (and in 1603 Andriey Baqueler / Bacler was an Elder or Deacon in the Walloon Church - see history p.210).
Marie, fille de Simon BAQUELET was baptised in 1617 when Sara Baquelet was a godmother, while Andrieu, Simon's son was baptised in 1618/9.
Marie Baquelé and Helene Baquelé were both godparents in 1647.
When I started I thought there were few Baquele entries in the registers, hence me mentioning them above; now I look at the registers more closely I realise there were lots of names probably just spelling variations of this beginning "Bac" as well - to be looked at in the future.
