The Funeral
"The funeral took place on Friday last [9 Jan 1925], at Charlton Cemetery, of Mr. Edward Penfold, of the "Coach and Horses" Yard, Tower Hamlets, who was accidentally killed by a motor car on the Dover-Folkstone road on the 5th January, at the age of 36 years. Floral tributes were sent from ...Mr. E. C. Goatham ...."
(Dover Express - Friday 16 January 1925, p. 7, col 5)
Edward's brother-in-law Mr Goatham was George Henry Goatham, who was married to Lavinia Penfold. Lavinia would have been about 5 months pregnant at the time, and perhaps that was why she could not attend her own brother's funeral.
Mr E C Goatham was Edwin Charles Goatham, whose (by then late) wife was Priscilla Elizabeth Beaney, the Beaneys also being related to the Penfolds.
Siblings1 brother and 2 sisters Notes - (Research):The floral tributes at Edward's funeral give his father's name, John Penfold, and there were also several Ripley aunts and uncles, seeming to confirm that it was this Edward Penfold who died in the accident.
