Bucknall Hospital, Bucknall, Staffordshire, England

Notes:
Thia hospital stared life as an isolation hospital specifically for smallpox and was originally known as Hanley, Stoke and Fenton Joint Infectious Diseases Hospital. It opened in 1885/86 and, as small pox declined, became a general isolation hospital. The treatment of illnesses such as Scarlet Fever, chicken pox and diphtheria were common at the hospital. Named as 'City Hospital (Infectious Diseases)' when surveyed for a map in 1949, by the 1950s, the hospital changed to focus on geriatric cases and was eventually closed in 2012. Largely demolished, the site is now being used for mixed housing. A gatehouse and some of the ward buildings still stand.

While at least two young Gotham, two sisters, died here of diphtheria (in 1899 and 1904) it may well have successfully treated others: the evidence is not readily available. If you know please let me know.

At least two Gothams also died here during its geriatric phase.
