Typical of Granddad!
I'd heard of this photo before I saw it - I believe Granddad was known for his love of reading and this was typical of him (though he also played netball on board ship and football ashore; I remember his description of the netball - it was a lot rougher than the game I played at school!)
P G Wodehouse was one of Granddad's favourite authors; I have one or 2 of his Wodehouse books now, and I think I probably gave Granddad one or 2 as Christmas or birthday presents. Amazing to think Wodehouse's first book was published when Granddad was only 3 and his last when I was twelve and so old enough to give Granddad newly published ones! I think the short stories of Somerset Maugham were something else Granddad was particularly found of.
