Name Prudence JUSTHAM Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 12 Sep 1785 St. Andrew’s Church, Buckland Monachorum, Devon, England - PR entry shows "Prudence Jetson", dau of Richard and Alice
Gender Female Residence From 1812 to 1821 The Poor House, Lamerton, Devon, England - Probably lived in the Poor House from being removed from Buckland Monachorum until her marriage to William Smale, unless she had any live-in employment.
Residence From 1822 to 1853 Plympton St. Mary, Devon, England - After marrying William Smale they seem to have settled in the parish of Plympton St. Mary where she also lived with her third husband.
But whilst she was in the parish 1822-1829, and 1851-3, for part of the period inbetween, including when the 1841 census was taken, she was in Egg Buckland.
Although she was shown as of Finewell Street in Plymouth when she re-married in 1839 this cannot be assumed to be true - it may have been an address she stayed at for the convenience of marrying in Plymouth, removing the need for additional banns being called.
Residence From 1822 to 1829 Underwood, Plympton St. Mary, Devon, England - When sons Benjamin and Richard and daughter Mary Ann were baptised
Residence 1824 Colebrook, Plympton St. Mary, Devon, England - When daughter Elizabeth was baptised
Residence 1841 Crabtree, Eggbuckland, Devon, England - The writing on this census page is very pale, but I believe it shows that Prudence was living with her 3rd husband in Crabtree, whichis just across the River Plym from Plympton St. Mary.
Two children from her second marriage were with her at the time of the census (I think probably Mary and Benjamin; also very pale, looks more like William than Benjamin but right age for Ben).
Residence 1851 Linch Cottage, Plympton St. Mary, Devon, England - With her 3rd husband, Richard Cornish
Died Mar Q 1853 Plympton Reg Dist, Devon, England - GRO ref: CORNISH, Prudence q1 1853 Plympton RD 5b 175; GRO online index shows age at death as 65
Buried 8 Feb 1853 The Church of St. Mary Blessed Virgin, Plympton St. Mary, Devon, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 25 Apr 2020)
"Prudence Cornish No. 280, abode: Lynch, buried Feby. 8., aged: 61, ceremony perfomred by Wm. J. Coppard"
At the time of the 1841 census Prudence was aged 55, and this is what should have been recorded. The ages in the household were not rounded down as they should have been: her husband, Richard, was recorded as 46, and her son William as 19. Prudence was recorded as 45, presumably she or Richard (if he knew the truth) did not wish her to appear as 9 years older than him. The 1851 census was also inaccurate although it admitted she was a few years older and showed her as 59 (when Richard was 55). This inaccuracy was maintained at her death: 2 years later, and she was shown as 61 in the burial register. The death registration is closer to the truth, her age was given as 65, although she must have been at least (and probably was) 67.

He may have stayed in the parish so the banns only needed to be called there and not in both churches - a way of saving money.

Shows William Small of Sampford Spiney married Prudence Palmer of Lamerton; married by Banns. Both made their mark, witnesses John Bones(?) and Thos Spurrell (both signed; Thomas signed most around this time - probably Parish Clerk)
I think it unlikely there was another Prudence of marriageable age in Lamerton at this time. (This Prudence's dau was legally old enough to marry, but not only was still a Palmer at the time of a later marriage, but marriages at the age of 12 or 13 were almost unknown at this time.)
Prudence's son William was apprenticed in 1829; in the "parents" column the register simply shows Prudence, with no surname given. William's abode at the time was Lamerton, so it seems probably that Prudence (and William?) were living in that parish.
More conclusive evidence that the marriage was this Prudence: Prudence had a number of children with William and the surname was recorded as SMALE. Then Prudence SMALE remarried again in 1839 and her father was shown as Richard JUDSON, tailor.
