    Granted to her John Prowse
    • Probate was granted to the executor, the husband of Jane's niece Jane Ferris, John Prowse.

We know of her will through extracts recorded by Miss Moger. She did not note which court proved the will, but it was probably the Archdeaconry Court of Totnes, given that it does not appear in Fry's calendar of the only other likely court, the Consistory Court of Exeter Diocese.
Siblings 1 brother and 1 sister
    Patriarch & Matriarch
HARRIS,   d. Yes, date unknown  (Father)
    Notes
    • (Research):I have looked for the baptism of Jane and her sister Elizabeth in order to be able to estimate her husband's approximate dob better. There seems to be no Jane baptized around the right time in Dittisham, also although an Elizabeth dau of John was baptised in 1723, an Elizabeth Heris was buried in 1726

    • I am only researching the Harrises in as far as they help exaplain the people mentioned in Jane Bellamy nee Harris's will, and may also enable me to find her dob and thus likely age of her husband, Matthew.

Matthew Ballamy of Blackawton, Jane Harris Spinster of this [Dittisham] Parish, by Licence, both signed, witnesses John Littlejohn and John Horswill (both signed)
Just under a year before Matthew and Jane married Jane's niece, also Jane Harris, had married a William Ching and settled in Slapton. Matthew also had Ching relations, his sister Thomazin having married a William Ching in 1742. Their children included a William Ching - I wonder if he was the William Ching that Jane Harris married, and if it was through their marrying that Matthew and Jane met and subsequently married. (Jane cannot have married Thomazin's widow, since Thomazin did not die until 1773)

Possibly against this theory is that Matthew seems to have left bequests to most of his nephews and nieces, in fact I don't know of any definitely alive then who were omitted, but he left nothing to William Ching. The William who Jane married did not die until 1786, so I think most likely was another William Ching. (There were quite a few Chings in the area).
