Name Eleanor GILCHRIST Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1782 South Shields, Co. Durham, England Baptised 27 Jan 1782 St. Hilda’s Church, South Shields, Co. Durham, England Gender Female Residence 1851 Walker, Long Benton, Northumberland, England - A widow, with her son Thomas and his wife and 2 young children
Died Aft 1851 - Probably between 1851 and 1861, as with a son in 1851 but not in 1861.
Not the Eleanor whose death was registered in 1859 as that was a 66 year old wife of Joseph Emmerson, blacksmith.
There does not seem to be a death registered of an Ele(a)nor Em(m)erson who could be this one between 1851 and 1881.
Her name was recorded in the 1851 census as Ellen - maybe her death was registered as Ellen?
Not found any real possibilities.
GRO ref: Emmerson, Ellen q1 1854 Sunderland RD 10a 224 BUT aged 5 at dth (GRO online index)
and (if she was still alive at the time of the 1861 census, although not yet found in it)
GRO ref: Emmerson, Ellen q3 1861 Chester le S. 10a 201 BUT aged 0 at dth (GRO online index)
- so these two can be ruled out from ages.
Could have been recorded as Helen(a) but not found any likely.
Did she remarry?
Siblings 4 brothers and 3 sisters Half-siblings 2 half sisters (family of Stephen GILCHRIST and Jane BULLMAN) Patriarch & Matriarch John GILCHRIST, b. Est 1625, (possibly), South Shields, Co. Durham, England , d. Yes, date unknown (3 x Great Grandfather)
Eleanor CAMPBELL, b. Est 1730, (probably), Co. Durham or Northumberland, England , d. Yes, date unknown (Grandmother)Notes - I think(*) this is the Eleanor living at Benwell Old Engine in 1841 with Margaret and Thomas - assume both are children. Eleanor shown as b out of county, and age 50 (living close to son Matthew). * - this seems to be confirmed by Matthew living with a bro Thomas who fits one found with Eleanor in 1841.
