    • From marriage licence

It seems unlikey that there were no children born in the first 8 years of the marriage, especially as there weren't large gaps between those born from 1697.  Possibly Hercules was the first born after the family moved to Tilmanstone, maybe as a result of an inheritance, as Sarah's father appears to have died in 1694. The names, though, do fit well with the sons being the first born to the marriage: Hercules, the name of Richard's father and a brother; George, the name of Sarah's father, and then Richard's own name.

I wondered if they had a Thomas first but here is no obvious reason why they would use this name. (See notes on brother Hercules' apprenticeship)
